Eye-catching Tyre Rims

Usually, tyre rims are so well blended with the colour of a car's body that we do not notice the intricacies and beauty of their designs. When we are conscious with an eye for details, we would then realise and appreciate the care and works that go into the making of tyre rims

However, when the colour of a tyre rim is in contrast to the paintwork on the exterior of a car, the tyre rim will be accentuated and speak for itself.

Here are some samples to remind us how critical tyre rims are for both functionality and good taste.

Yellow Hong Kong Taxi

Nowadays you will not be able to find yellow taxis in Hong Kong.

As gleaned from the Transport Department of Hong Kong:-

"Taxi is one of the key public passenger transport service providers in Hong Kong. At present there are 18,163 taxis in Hong Kong, of which 15,250 are urban taxis (red), 2,838 are New Territories taxis (green) and 75 are Lantau taxis (blue). The average daily taxi patronage is near 1 million."

For posterity, here is how a yellow Hong Kong taxi would have looked like in the past:-

Peg Hunting at a New Location

Depending on the frequency of the your visit, peg hunting for diecast cars by the likes of Hot Wheels, Matchbox and Green Light can be exasperating as the stocks are not refreshed as often as you wished whenever you show up.

A recent jaunt to a new hunting ground has yielded a refreshing haul of some oldies and newbies which I envisage would be getting harder and harder still to find.

Morris Mini by Tomica

Here are two Minis for your viewing by Tomica.

The attention to details put into these 1:64 diecast model cars are commendable and they are relatively affordable when compared with more premium brands.

As to what is the proper name for a Mini, is it going to Austin Mini or Morris Mini?

To shed some light on this FAQ, the following extract from Wikipedia is illuminating:-

"In August 1959, the Mini was marketed under the Austin and Morris names, as the Austin Seven and Morris Mini-Minor. The Austin Seven was renamed Austin Mini in January 1962 and Mini became a marque in its own right in 1969. In 1980, it once again became the Austin Mini, and in 1988, just "Mini" (although the "Rover" badge was applied on some models exported to Japan).

BMW acquired the Rover Group (formerly British Leyland) in 1994, and sold the greater part of it in 2000, but retained the rights to build cars using the Mini name. Retrospectively, the car is known as the "Classic Mini" to distinguish it from the modern, BMW-influenced MINI family of vehicles produced since 2000."
