Peg Hunting at a New Location

Depending on the frequency of the your visit, peg hunting for diecast cars by the likes of Hot Wheels, Matchbox and Green Light can be exasperating as the stocks are not refreshed as often as you wished whenever you show up.

A recent jaunt to a new hunting ground has yielded a refreshing haul of some oldies and newbies which I envisage would be getting harder and harder still to find.

Morris Mini by Tomica

Here are two Minis for your viewing by Tomica.

The attention to details put into these 1:64 diecast model cars are commendable and they are relatively affordable when compared with more premium brands.

As to what is the proper name for a Mini, is it going to Austin Mini or Morris Mini?

To shed some light on this FAQ, the following extract from Wikipedia is illuminating:-

"In August 1959, the Mini was marketed under the Austin and Morris names, as the Austin Seven and Morris Mini-Minor. The Austin Seven was renamed Austin Mini in January 1962 and Mini became a marque in its own right in 1969. In 1980, it once again became the Austin Mini, and in 1988, just "Mini" (although the "Rover" badge was applied on some models exported to Japan).

BMW acquired the Rover Group (formerly British Leyland) in 1994, and sold the greater part of it in 2000, but retained the rights to build cars using the Mini name. Retrospectively, the car is known as the "Classic Mini" to distinguish it from the modern, BMW-influenced MINI family of vehicles produced since 2000."

Austin Minis by Matchbox

The Mini is as charming as ever with its enduring appeal which has stood the test of time.

If you still have room for some more Minis, the following series by Matchbox might appeal to you. Happy to have gotten hold of them at retail price and managed to secure the remaining white Mini upon the second visit to complete this set of Matchbox Minis.

INNO64: 1) Ferrari 308 GTB (body kit by Liberty Walk); and 2) Nissan GT-R (R35)

INNO64 has done a great job with the following Ferrari 308 GTB and Nissan GT-R (R35) with top scores in the following areas:

  • Realism - resemblance to the real car
  • Styling and refinement of bodywork (e.g. hood, headlights, radiator grilles, windshield, logo, trunk, backlights, side view mirrors, roof, windows and doors.)
  • Wheels - tyres and rims
  • Paintwork - colour and shine

1) Ferrari 308 GTB (body kit by Liberty Walk)

The contrast between the red body coat and charcoal black wheels accentuates the allure of this Ferrari. The Liberty Walk body kit (LBWK) is outstanding and well sculptured by INNO64 with finesse. The Advan livery on the body and wording on the tyres are nice trimmings to cap off this work of art.

2) Nissan GT-R (R35)

The styling to this R35 is sleek and immaculate with a nice blending of millennium jade green body coat with polished bronze rims for the wheels. And, those blue exhausts pipes deserve a shout out.

Peg Hunting for Hot Wheels

Peg hunting for Hot Wheels is enjoyable because of the surprise element of what you might find like the youngster who showed up later than me at a hunting ground but still managed to scoop a super treasure hunt (with the marking of "TH") right under my nose.

He was in so much elation that he had to catch his breadth and later took the time to explain to a lady shopper, who was there with her two sons, as to why that prize-car is so valuable in answer to her query.

My recent picks from peg hunting for Hot Wheels are as follows:-

Makeover from Datsun to Rotsun

If looks could kill, this badass-looking Datsun would fit the bill.

This morphed over from a sedentary Datsun has fittingly earn it the moniker of a "Rotsun" with its rogue-like "roadkill" appetite.

Monstrous job well done for this makeover of Nissan's Fairlady into a road killer.
